You
Want, But You Won’t!
There’s one thing you can say about my newsletters,
is that I don’t try to dazzle you with fancy words or drawn
out explanations. I believe that your time is valuable and I do
appreciate you taking the time to subscribe to and read my newsletters
each month. In each issue I try to talk about something relevant
that anyone can relate to dealing with self improvement, achievement,
goals and success in general. What you get each month is my thoughts,
opinions, and my experiences that come from real life examples.
I am not the touchy, feeley, "Politically Correct" type
of person. Sometimes my tone in my newsletters can be harsh, direct
and mechanical but at least you know two things: that I really believe
what I’m saying and that what you are getting is real. Now
that being said, let me tell why I believe that you are not living
the life you want.
Most of us aspire to be something in life, a doctor,
lawyer, singer, successful business person, etc. I remember when
I was growing up in St. Petersburg I wanted to be all sorts of things.
I wanted to be a professional football player, lawyer and professional
singer just to name a few. Well what happened? Why didn’t
I become either one of these? Well now looking back at my life I
realize that I didn’t have two key ingredients for success.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are other ingredients but today
I just want to touch on these two. What I didn’t have was....
Passion and Determination!
I wanted to be a lawyer but I wouldn’t do what
it took to be one, especially after I found out how difficult is
was to be one. Now just think if I was really passionate and determined
to be a lawyer, would I care that much about the difficulties? Now
ask yourself, “what do I want out of life?” Then ask
yourself, “why don’t I have it?” You see you want
this or that but you won't do what it takes to get it. Now if you
had P and D (passion and determination)
you will do what it takes to get where you want to be. Getting up
at 5 AM is just something that you do to move closer to your goal,
going to the library to study when you don’t feel like it
is just a small price to pay to get you where you want to be. We
want to achieve great things or maybe not so great things,
but we all want something that we don’t have. Having P and
D means that sometimes doing things that you don’t want to
do to get you where you want to be, this is expected. Do you actually
think that being a successful doctor, lawyer, chef or anything is
obtained by not doing hard work and only doing stuff you like? Let’s
not fool ourselves. Funny thing, if you had P and D the hard work,
sweat, tasks that you don’t like and don’t want to do,
doesn’t seem all that bad. It’s still not ideal but
not terrible either. If I wanted to be a leading authority on birds
and I love the topic of birds, me going to the library to research
birds for two hours doesn’t seem all that bad because I enjoy
birds. Because of my P, I want to learn all I can about birds and
because of my D to be a leading authority on birds, I will do what
it takes to become a leading authority. Passion is what fuels the
fire and Determination is what keeps the fire going. Check
your P and D and see how you can make it work for you.
