Half and Half Anyone?

In this crazy world we live in today, life will eventually put us in some situations that we thought we never be in. You could lose your job, you could get sick, or hear unexpected bad news. The way we react or what we do when we find ourselves in these situations says a lot about us. I often say to myself “I would love to be the type of person that thrive under pressure, or roll up my sleeves when the going got tough.” The more I learn about myself, the more I come to realize that maybe I’m not that type of person. If you are not that type of person that thrives under pressure or the person that jumps right in and take problems and issues on when the going gets tough, that doesn’t mean that you can’t become the person you want to be. Every once in a while I hear someone say “Not having is no excuse for not getting.” Just because you don’t have what you want in life right now, is no excuse for not going out and acquiring the knowledge and skills you need to get what you want. Don’t sit on the sideline of life and pine away and throw pity parties about how your life is this and that, do something about it.

One of the best things we can do and something we have complete control of is how we see or look at things. Take a moment and think back when you were faced with challenging situations or got some bad news, how did you react, looking back now, could you have did something different? When faced with a challenge in life do you see the good in the situation or the good that can come out of the situation or do you just look at the bad. Believe me it will help if you looked at the good in every situation good or bad that comes in your life. I am not saying that this is easy, it takes practice but the payoff is worth it. Start with something small that you consider annoying in your life. For example, I hate waiting in line at the post office, instead of me getting upset or fuming about all the people I have to stand in line behind, I could look at it like this...

  • Well, while I’m waiting I can read the little pamphlets they have about mailing packages
  • Maybe, this helps me to be more patient
  • At least I’m in the air/heat because it’s hot/cold outside

I think you get the idea. At first it may sound silly but practice this over and over again with other things in your life and soon you will begin to see your glass half full instead of empty.
